Abstract: This essay studies the ceremonies of the burial of Christ in the territories of modern-day Portugal and Spain. While the Depositio was unknown in Spain, some liturgical rites of the Savior’s entombment existed in medieval Spain. The essay discusses the impact of the Council of Trent on the creation of the paraliturgical ceremonies that are still in existence today.
