Abstract: Under this beautiful title with its Yourcenarian accents, a short text which is a pendant to “Son dernier visage” in so far as, also published in 1936, it is largely devoted to the loss of the father. Despite an apparent heterogeneity leading to a very difficult generic characterization – of poetic, mystifying, autobiographical, meta-discursive, ethical and political dimensions – “La Ville des hirondelles” presents, in our opinion, a powerful coherence, a reflection of Gionian poetics.
