Pattern and particularity in a pedagogical genre The case of an individual teacher

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Genre, Text and Language. Mélanges Anne Freadman
  • Authors: Morton (Janne), Elder (Catherine), McNamara (Tim)
  • Abstract: This article reports a rhetorical genre-based analysis of a spoken classroom event and seeks to characterize the genre for pedagogical purposes. A case study approach allowed the authors to explore the pattern and variability in the teacher’s improvisational pedagogical style. We conclude by underlining the need for a concept of genre in applied linguistics.
