Can mathematics think genre? Alain Badiou and Forcing

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Genre, Text and Language. Mélanges Anne Freadman
  • Author: Clemens (Justin)
  • Abstract: This paper takes up the challenge to genre theory recently adumbrated by the philosopher Alain Badiou in a sequence of major philosophical treatises, notably Being and Event, published in 1988. In this work, Badiou deploys set-theoretical mathematics, from Georg Cantor to Paul Cohen, for a new definition of genre.
