Abstract: This article focuses on translation into French under the reign of Francis I. It briefly recalls the tradition, political as well as iconographic, of the king as protector of writers and translators. It then examines the works translated into vernacular and presents a typology of translators, before showing how the monarch differs from his predecessors.
