Une rhétorique de l’honneur Les poèmes de François Ier captif

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: François Ier et la vie littéraire de son temps (1515-1547)
  • Author: Skenazi (Cynthia)
  • Abstract: To what extent did poetry allow Francis I to defend his honor after his defeat in Pavia and his captivity? Far from being an abstract code of conduct, honor (a good that the king valued as much as his own life) was a rhetorical tool. It opened itself up to ways of reasserting publicly Francis I’s power, and played a strategic role in his confrontation with Charles V.
