Abstract: This introduction explores the diffusion of Marivaux’s theatre over the centuries on European and non-European stages. Each epoch appreciated some titles of his repertoire according to the expectations of the public and the current critical questions, in different cultural contexts. To follow the history of this diffusion of Marivaudian plays is then to reconstruct the cultural transfers that they were able to operate, especially thanks to the critical and artistic activity of some passeurs.
