Abstract: The lack of interest in the plays of Marivaux, on the part of the public, the critics and translators, is surprising when compared to repertoires in other countries, or to the ongoing fashion exhibited in Poland, by directors, actors and theatre-goers, for Molière. And this imbalance has persisted since the 18th century. What are the causes of this situation? And why have the attempts to remedy it proved ineffective?
