Abstract: In the 16th century, second-hand clothes sellers were important suppliers of theatrical costumes in Paris. The aim of this article is to identify those who had made costume rental a specialty. Who were they? What were their skills? and special know-how? What were their connections with the theatre world? Once the group has been better defined, the merchandise described in their probate inventories are analysed in order to better understand the features of the habit de scène during the period.
