Abstract: Although the term workshop is old, it has made a spectacular appearance in the vocabulary of artistic didactics and practices in the 20th and 21st centuries. This article examines how and when the paradigm shifts from the painter’s or sculptor’s studio to the theatrical workshop took place and the challenges of the semantic shift from course or class to workshop.
