Abstract: Jean-Jacques Quesnot de la Chenée was a Huguenot entrepreneur d’opéra whose vie bigarée de bonnes & de mauvaises avantures took him across western Europe and beyond. This article focuses on Quesnot’s difficult career in the Dutch Republic, including his brief stint at the French opera in The Hague and his failed attempts to produce operatic spectacles in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
