Les figures de la Dissertatio de actione scenica (1727) de Franciscus LangLes implications des recettes d’atelier dans l’illustration de traités d’action scénique
Abstract: Taking the Dissertatio de actione scenica cum figuris eandem explicantibus written by the Jesuit Franciscus Lang (1654-1725) as a case study, this essay replaces theatrical treatise illustrations in their workshop context. The author shows that the engraver used production shortcuts by borrowing in other pictures postures unrelated with the topic and epoch of Lang’s book. It will be explained how these illustrations resulted from a negotiation between some artistic and workshop practices, the pedagogical needs of the treatise and the reader’s way of perceiving pictures.
