Abstract: Quentin Meillassoux’s book marks an important contribution to our understanding of “Un coup de dés”. The article shows however that Quentin Meillassoux has overlooked a key element in the genesis of the poem which relates to Mallarmé’s involvement in the artistic debates of the late nineteenth century and to his own intellectual development. This article therefore attempts to complement the analysis of Quentin Meillassoux without paraphrasing it.
