Abstract: Here we present a rare and curious text: a refutation of Renan’s Life of Jesus written in Florentine dialect and published in 1864. The anonymous pamphlet features a dialogue between two lower-class weavers (two Ciane, raucous and gossipy women, typical characters of the Italian popular theatre), vulgarising the most common arguments of the Catholic criticism to Renan's book. The text is edited in full, with a parallel French translation.
