Abstract: La Revue universelle is a good witness of the position of right-wing intellectuals towards Renan's thought and person after 1920. Although Renan was no longer at the heart of the intellectual debate, he continued to be reviled by Thomist Catholics (Massis, Maritain), but his anti-democratic pages were used extensively by the Maurrassian historian Bainville.
