  • Abstract: Developing a real scientific program in L’Avenir de la science and numerous articles, Renan made scholarly societies part of his thinking as well as part of his daily life. After leaving the seminary, he frequented the Société asiatique, before going on to join other scholarly societies. Scholarly societies thus find their place in a collective practice of science based on collaboration between scholars and bridging the divide between Paris and the provinces.
