Abstract: Olaf Avenati details how he “sculpts” data in order to visualize it. It is not simply a matter of informing (the public, enlightened or otherwise) but also of equipping researchers, who are sometimes helpless in the face of masses of figures and variables. After an overview of these current methods, he illustrates them with examples from his and his students’ work.
