Abstract: The article analyzes how the concept of the « artist-bourgeois » allows Mann to manifest the hybrid nature of his condition by projecting his inner conflict in the romantic psyche of spokesperson characters, thus giving rise to marginal figures likely to embody the creative process in both their positive and negative aspects.
