Abstract: This article focuses on the « problem of continuity » in Ernst Kantorowicz’s works – i.e. on how the permanence of the political order can be defended against discontinuities threatening its stability. This is clearly a central topic in The King’s Two Bodies, but this article shows that it is also a recurring question in all his works. Starting from a historical debate in the 1930s, the « problem of continuity » involves since its origin both historical and political issues.
