Abstract: This article assesses how the model of religious toleration has weighed on the articulation of liberal theories of multiculturalism in two contemporary philosophers’ works, Will Kymlicka’s and Chandran Kukathas’. The article analyses the ambiguity of the model of religious toleration, arguing that such model tends to overestimate the moral disagreement at stake in cultural conflicts and to undermine the possibility of solving them democratically.
