Abstract: This paper shows how the question of the sacred, as inherited from Durkheim, and the question of total war, as it is rooted in German literature around Jünger, meet in the work of the Collège de Sociologie. But this encounter may reflect above all the philosophical limits of the contemporary issues about the sacred.
