Abstract: “The Contradictory Imaginaries of Transhumanism”. This article analyzes two regimes of tension which are pervasive in the development of transhumanism as a mode of thought; first in the work of some Anglo-Saxon bioethicists, and second in the discourses of activists gathered in associations or more informal groups. We describe how transhumanists contribute to and are entangled in a sociotechnical imaginary constantly oscillating between emancipation and constraint, fantasy and rationalization.
