Abstract: “On the Contemporary Origins of Transhumanism: Julian Huxley and Fereidoun M. Esfandiary”. A close reading of some important early texts of contemporary transhumanism reveals two very different trends within this movement : an awareness of being responsible for a future evolution of humanity, whose traits have not yet been defined; a playful, libertarian aspiration to realize a wide range of possibilities. This article suggests that these two trends remain independent of each other and cannot be reconciled.
