  • Abstract: This paper aims to understand the correlation between the notions of courtly and emotional communities, by analysing the kings’ and the lovers’ specific communities in arthurian and tristanian texts. It reveals the homogeneity of courtly and affective standards in the moral attitude of these characters, inhabited by the injunction, both social and amorous, to behave decently and discretely, with all the nuances linked to this ideal of faire semblant.
