Message
from the International
PresidenT

It is a delight and a privilege to have been elected as International President of the ICLS, following the successful tenure of Logan Whalen, one of the kindest men it has been my honour to know and work with. Thank you, Logan, for everything you have done for the Society, and for your friendship. Thanks, too, to the very able Kristin Burr who stepped down as International Treasurer at the Exeter congress, to Leah Tether who has stepped into her shoes, and to Beverly Evans for her dedication and incredible service as Editor of Encomia. It has been a real pleasure to work with all of them. I want to thank all of those who were involved in the Exeter triennial congress of 2019, including Tom Hinton, Michelle Bolduc, Coline Blaizeau, and Edward Mills of the University of Exeter. Exeter was, of course, my own home for sixteen years before my move to the University of Leeds this summer, and it was therefore a bittersweet moment for me. Also bittersweet as we remembered the untimely death of our dear Exeter colleague Simon Barton whose partner Geri Smith (UCF) delivered a wonderful plenary session. I know that Simon would have been looking down on us all with great joy. We were very pleased to welcome all of those who were able to come to the green and pleasant hills of Devon to join us. The proceedings of the Exeter congress are being collected as we speak, and we shall hope to update you soon with the progress of those volumes due to be published under the auspices of Liverpool University Press and their fine series of medieval titles. We are also thrilled that Patrick Moran has joined us as Vice President, and will be hosting the next triennial congress at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, in 2022, by which time we trust that global pandemics permitting, we will all once again be able to gather in person to enjoy each others 12company, and the splendid Canadian countryside. I look forward very much indeed to seeing you there, and thank you for your continued loyalty to our Society.
