Abstract: In this interview, acclaimed British filmmaker Mike Leigh discusses at length his views on William Hogarth, possible overlaps between their respective work, the difficult distinction between character and caricature, his admiration for Hogarth’s social and humanist commitment, and the Englishness of their productions.
