Abstract: Digital images appear as hybrid images between indexicality and representation. This hybridization allows the image to explore the border territories of different registers. The text explores the relationship that may exist between animation and documentary, two worlds that seem to be opposed, but which recently intersect in films. To what extent does the relationship that documentary maintains with the world remain in animated films ? This paper attempts to answer this question by studying documentary animation works such as Ari Folman’s Waltz with Bashir and Brett Morgen’s Chicago 10, or by analyzing the use of animation techniques and special effects to manipulate and transform documentary images, as in Avi Mograbi’s Z32.
