  • Abstract: Through a few striking sequences representing three major events in Caesar's life and the end of the Roman Republic – the surrender of Vercingetorix, the crossing of the Rubicon and the Ides of Mars –, this analysis aims to show the cultural imagination that infuses Rome. A change in the horizon of expectation occurs, notably through the series’ rereading of sources from Antiquity and its close collaboration with the historical advisor.
