Abstract: Through the personal narration of her documentary Too Black to be French?, Isabelle Boni-Claverie illustrates her diasporic position and that of her cinema. She deconstructs family secrets and national lies, illustrating how the personal, and artistic, is political. The subjectivization of the historical narrative restores a plurality of perspectives that enriches the conventional tale.
