Abstract: The Jacques Rivette’s paper, De l’abjection (1961), was published at the same time that the lecture, Engagement, that Theodor Adorno read on Radio-Brême in 1962. Both of them share the same ethical problem. A work of fiction is due to face the reality, especially when its historical aspects are inextricably linked with a moral dimension. In any event, the critic and the german philosopher concluded that forms couldn’t be judged only from an aesthetical perspective. This moral point of view has formed the best defense of the politics of the author.
