Abstract: The creation of a treatise on the historical phonetics of French Creoles is a desidaratum which cannot be realised before the Dictionnaire étymologique des créoles français d’Amérique is published. Nevertheless, the DECA’s data already allows us to move towards certain phenomena, such as the development of the French aspirate h, which has been maintained in Franco-Creoles of America, and the origins of the [h] emerging spontaneously in contexts where it is not question of an etymon in [h].
