Abstract: The Italian grammar by Veneroni (alias Jean Vigneron) was widely published in numerous editions in the 18th century and addresses especially a female public. This article analyses the role of Italian language in the French society of the 18th century, the method of teaching modern language, the conception of bon usage in the Italian language and the diffusion of the grammar.
