Abstract: John Lydgate made use of Laurent de Premierfait’s translation of Boccaccio’s De casibus virorum illustrium to write The Fall of Princes. By highlighting each author’s particular concerns, this article shows that Lydgate contributed to creating an English vernacular culture.
