Abstract: This unpublished correspondence portrays Abbé Grégoire in a new light. As a constitutional bishop from the Loir-et-Cher region, he attempted to respond to a confused clergy with his dual loyalty to faith and the republic and worked to effectuate the recent separation of Church and State.
