Abstract: Present in the collective imaginary, Perrault’s Contes lend their prestige to popular tradition in apologetic tales as charming as they are cruel, in the image of universal humanity. This edition highlights the traditions that Perrault draws from, as well as the anchoring of the tales in the France of Louis XIV.
