Abstract:Soldaat van Oranje is a 1977 film by Paul Verhoeven. Adapted from Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema’s war memoirs, it recounts the adventures of a group of friends from 1939 to 1945. Some of them were able to reach London, from where Queen Wilhelmina was organizing the resistance. Its depiction of the constitutional monarchy is highly positive, to the extent that this extremely popular film seems to have played a role in its preservation, despite the scandals that shook it in the 1970s.
