Abstract: Anthony Berkeley Cox is a twentieth-century English writer who contributed extensively to the development of the detective novel. However, his work is subversive and characterized by a rejection of conformity, both literary and social. His credo consists of thwarting narrative rules and playing with human laws. A.B.C., or the code name of a writer who defied all codes.
