Abstract: The task of European comparatists evolves within a shifting geopolitical context. The traditional practices of the discipline will continue to exist, but Comparative Literature will also raise the question of the position of European literature in World Literature. European comparative literature scholars must therefore demonstrate modesty and flexibility in order to re-position European literature for a future in which Europe will play a much-diminished role in the world.
