Abstract: Between 1861 and 1885, a revolution began in the United Kingdom in terms of the legal protection of individuals in the event of sexual crime. However, the voices of abused women were all too often not heard. Using primary sources, we will examine the taboo surrounding female sexuality, as well as any illicit sexual relations outside marriage, and the perception of rape in British Victorian society.
