Topographie du dégoût casanovien

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Casanova. « Écrire à tort et à travers »
  • Author: Tilkin (Françoise)
  • Abstract: In spite of being built as a pleasure quest from the first lines of its preface, the Story of my life very often contains references to disgust, which plays a crucial part in the plot. Disgust is caused by sexual objects, consequently very often by women. Casanova also emphasizes the lack of and the disappearance of disgust. One should also question the suspension of disgust from the perspective of the reader, who is exposed to tales that might be regarded as repugnant – isn’t this the sign that Casanova succeeds in imposing his vision on us?
