Abstract: In the absence of archives on the links between Tristan L’Hermite and his publishers, as well as the painters and engravers who contributed to the publication of most of his texts, what can be inferred about the relationships of this Parisian man of letters (a gentleman living in the world but indifferent to its financial affairs) with books and their materiality? The poet’s participation in “gallery books” offers an ideal vantage point to study the way the idea of the monument can be understood in Tristan’s work.
