Abstract: Rereading the three plays in the light of their spiritual dimensions—La Mariane as a tragedy of martyrdom, La Mort de Sénèque as a conversion play, and Osman as a clash between earthly glory and spiritual retreat—does not diminish their dark and violent tragic character but allows us to recognize a moral and devout background that adds nuance to the dramatic action of the presence of grace.
