Abstract: This study addresses the question of Clément Marot’s influence on Tristan’s poetry. The use of auctoritates, the persona of the poet, or the presence of female voices reveal several commonplaces such as the importance given to the human condition. The presence of the bantering tone highlights Tristan’s explicit debt to Marot. The variations that Tristan adds to such a legacy open new modalities in the reading of the work and the figure of the poet.
