Abstract: Present throughout the work of Tristan, the theme of war is nonetheless the object of a variety of treatments. While the poet-courtesan celebrates the warrior virtues of the powerful and those to whose service he is attached, the author of Le Page disgracié recreates the violence of combat, sparing the readers no details. It seems possible to relate the different faces of war presented in this way to the contrasting figures embodied in the Tristanian I, sometimes melancholic and sometimes admiring.
