Abstract: Staël defines a modern narrative of care which aims at repairing the social bond weakened in the aftermath of the Terror. The remedial function of Staël’s fiction reveals a philosophy of care that dialogues with American theorists of care, Joan Tronto in particular. The ethics of care, according to Staël, takes the form of a moral action that avoids abstracts maxims in order to value affects and to recognize the singularity of experiences.
