Abstract:Le Temps de Tamango by the Senegalese writer Boubacar Boris Diop is a rewrite of Mérimée’s Tamango that belongs to the genre of political fiction. Reflecting the trend toward postcolonial deconstruction, this rewrite resulted in a tale, epic in tone, about the exploits of a black hero. This article studies the processes that led to this work, in particular the simplification of the diegesis and narrative subversion.
