Abstract: An 1874 copy of Les Chants de Maldoror, the first found in Uruguay, has broken its silence. An ex libris revealed the identity of the owner, Fermin Carlos de Yeregui, a cultivated Uruguayan diplomat. This is also the occasion to explore its origins. It is possible that Ruben Dario, Leopoldo Lugones, or Pedrito Zumaran helped him obtain it. The diplomat rubbed shoulders with a number of personalities and travelled in Europe and Argentina, where the opportunity to acquire the volume must have presented itself.
