Abstract: Laid out in his lectures and essays, concerns around hygienism are a response to the crisis sweeping through France according to Giraudoux, and have many different faces: anxiety about falling birth rates, fear in the face of what he sees as uncontrolled immigration, hope placed in sport and town planning. These concerns may be expressed within political discourse, but are also present in the questions that structure the imaginary of his fictional work.
