Abstract: Clément Marot who invented the genre officially published only one of the four coq-à-l’âne on which editors agree. This article examines the attribution to Marot of the many coq-à-l’âne composed up to 1544. It is based on the establishment of some relatively objective and systematically applicable criteria, as well as on a re-examination of ten texts that have been attributed to the poet by critics.
