Abstract: This article examines the place of religious buildings inhabited by monks or canons – monasteries, collegiate churches, abbeys – in French chansons de geste. We will consider disposition categories in relation with their situation in the narrative and study their ideological and literary functions related the representation of the feudal society in the chansons de geste (12th-13th c.).
